For more than twenty years I've studied and lived the teachings of yoga and ayurveda, not as wellness trends or abstract philosophies to admire from afar, but as practical tools for living a full, happy and yet sometimes a complicated life.

One of the greatest gifts Ayurveda has given me is helping me understand what my body is trying to tell me. Like many women, my symptoms really began to intensify during the pandemic. Life felt uncertain and stressful. I was juggling family, work and the emotional weight of everything happening around us. I wasn't resting enough, I wasn't nourishing myself properly, and before long my body began waving red flags that I could no longer ignore.
At the time, I experienced many of the same symptoms I now see in the women I work with every day. Poor sleep. Anxiety. Feeling wired and exhausted all at once. Irritability. Overwhelm. A sense that something just wasn't quite right.
What changed everything was learning to stop fighting my symptoms and start listening to them. Through Ayurveda, I began to understand that my symptoms weren't random. They were messages. My body was communicating with me and asking for something different.
Now, when I notice the signs of a Vata imbalance creeping in, I know it's time to slow down, nourish myself, oil my feet and spend time in nature. When I feel the heat of Pitta building through rage, irritability or burnout, I know that a glass of coconut water or a pot of hibiscus tea will serve me far better than a glass of wine. And when Kapha leaves me feeling stuck, uninspired or heavy, I know it's time to create movement, seek out joy and reconnect with what lights me up.
The beautiful thing is that this wisdom is available to all of us.
When we understand our patterns, we can respond to them with awareness instead of confusion. We become active participants in our own wellbeing rather than feeling at the mercy of our symptoms.
